Help! I've accidentally flattened my original files!

Ugh!  No worries.  I’ve done that too.  Haaaa  Contact [email protected] and we’ll get you all straightened out.  If you have your order number, that’d be very helpful, please include!  When you receive your templates we highly recommend making a backup copy on an external drive/cloud etc.

Why is it important for me to save my email receipt?

Lots of reasons!  Stuff happens!  We all know, and I’ll tell you again here… when you get your files from L&G, back them up – make a copy and put it elsewhere.   However, if you’ve had computer issues, flattened your originals (eeek!), or upgraded software and wondering if you should update your templates, we can help with all of those things.  Whenever you have questions or problems, email [email protected] with your order number found on your receipt (that you kept filed away in email because we told you to!) and we’ll get you all straightened out!

What software are your templates built in?

Laugh & Grow Press templates are built in Photoshop.  Compatibility is listed in the description of each product, however, unless otherwise stated on product page, templates are compatible with CS2 through CS6, CC, and Elements 8-12.

Do I need to be proficient in Photoshop?

A general understanding and knowledge of photoshop (layers, masks..)  is always helpful, however, our templates come with detailed video tutorials that will guide you through customizing your pieces.  L&G is also always available for additional questions if you are getting stuck on something.  Please feel free to email a question to [email protected] and we will help you out right away!  We also never mind questions posted to our FB page, so feel free!  Right this way >>>  OUR FACEBOOK PAGE

The Simply Announcing templates only come with a vertical template for the back. Where is the horizontal?

If you purchased the Simply Announcing Collection prior to 2015 you do not have a separate horizontal back file.  However!  This is simple to create with a click of a button.  🙂  Open your Back Pattern Template.  In the menu at the top of your screen, go to IMAGE > Image Rotation  >  90 CW.  This will turn every layer 90 degrees and you will now have a horizontal file.  (easy right?) Be sure to save this under a different name:  L&G Back Pattern Horizontal, as to not save over your original vertical files.   In doing this rotation, you will need to replace the images on the “polkadot hi” and “tied up” layers if you choose to use these options.  We will email you these eps files to replace in your document.  Email [email protected] for the files.  This oversight has since been fixed, we’re sorry for the inconvenience!

Where should I send L&G templates for print?

Laugh & Grow Press does it’s best to research and build it’s templates in standard industry sizes.  If a template has been built within a specific printer specification, it will be documented in the description on the  product’s page in the shop.  Please be sure to check with your printer, and/or download their exact template to double check size and bleed and safe areas, unfortunately Laugh & Grow Press is not responsible for printer errors.  You can adjust L&G template sizes according to your printer’s needs.  Be sure to adjust guides/bleeds and safe areas too.

Do you recommend a printer?

If a Laugh & Grow product has been built with a specific printer in mind it will be listed in the specific product description, so be sure to check it’s product page first.  🙂  However, there are some amazing professional print labs out there.  Here are but a few!  Check out Miller’s, http://www.millerslab.com  –   MPix Pro, owned by Miller’s, http://www.mpixpro.com  –  WHCC, https://www.whcc.com  –  ProDPI, http://www.prodpi.com.   The Edge Photo Imaging (WHCC affiliate in Australia)  –   http://www.theedgephoto.com.au

How do I place an image into a template?

Always a few different ways to accomplish a task.  Here’s what I recommend.  Your template is open that you are working with.  Open the image in Photoshop you would like to place into the template.  On the image file, go to IMAGE > Select All  (keyboard shortcut MAC: command A/option A for PC)  then, EDIT > Copy  (keyboard shortcut MAC: command C/option C for PC).  Now go to the template file.  Select the layer you wish to paste into.  Often it is labeled “PLACE PHOTO HERE”  and paste in;  EDIT > Paste (keyboard shortcut MAC: command V/option V for PC).  Now you can move it around to alter it as you wish, or if you need to resize:  EDIT > Free Transform (keyboard shortcut MAC: command T/option T for PC)  a bounding box will appear around your image.  While holding down the shift key, grab a CORNER and drag in or out to desired size, click return when finished.  If loading multiple photos into layer masks, repeat steps per image layer.

How do I change the color of an icon?

There are always different ways to accomplish a task.  Here’s how I recommend.  Make sure the icon layer you wish to alter is selected.  Click on the small “fx” button at the bottom of the layer palette. Choose “Color Overlay” from the fly-out menu that pops up.  A box will open up, click on the color box just right of the ‘blend mode’.  A color picker will open.  Use slider to choose any color you wish, click inside the large color choice box, or if you hover over your image an eye dropper will appear, you can click on any area of your photo to get a great color match.  Click ok and your icon is now changed.  You can still change the opacity with the slider at the top of the layer palette also.  If later you wish to change the color again: on that layer, double click the words “color overlay” and the same menu will pop up and you can change your colors again.  You can also trash your ‘fx’ customizations if you’d like to return to the original.

How do I move the openings in the borders?

To accomplish this is easy but it depends on the version you have purchased.  The video tutorials covers this extensively!  You will find the links to your tutorials and their passwords on the pdf that came with purchase .  Can’t locate?  Email [email protected] and we’ll direct you, no worries!

Can I change the font in the word art brushes?

Some of the brushes and word art are created in fonts that are not free, so we have made them into ‘art’ or ‘pictures’.  This way you still have the beautiful word art without having to purchase an expensive font!  These are all customizable in size, placement, color and opacity.  However, it is not actual text and cannot be altered.

Can I use an L&G icon or brush art in my logo?

Well first, thank you for liking our designs enough to want to use in your logo, however, unfortunately that violates the template design copyright and Laugh & Grow Press terms and conditions.  Please view that here if you still have questions.  Did you know that Kim does custom logo design?  We’d love to help!  Contact us at [email protected] for availability.

Can I use elements from L&G PRODUCTS to create my own templates to sell?

No, unfortunately that violates the template design copyright and Laugh & Grow Press terms and conditions.  Please view that here if you still have questions.

How do I load brush files into photoshop?

When you have downloaded your brushes, .abr files, and saved them on your system, now you need to load them up in Photoshop.  Select the brush icon from the main tools on the left.  Two ways to accomplish:  1)  click on the small downward facing arrow next to the brush size (upper left).  A fly-out menu will appear, click on the gear icon in upper right of the fly-out menu, choose “Load Brushes” and navigate to the set saved on your system.  2)  Still have the brush tool selected.  Click on the icon with 2 horizontal brushes on the vertical tool bar on right, your brush palette will fly out.  Now click on the downward facing arrow next to the few small horizontal lines (it’s really small!), choose “Load Brushes” and navigate to the saved brush set on your system.  They are all loaded up!  Remember all new brushes load in at the end of the palette, scroll down to see your new brushes.

I loaded my brush files but can't locate the actual brushes!

When you load brushes into photoshop, they load into the “back of the line”.  In your brush palette, scroll all the way to the end of all of your brushes.  They will be the last ones loaded in.  🙂

My question is not listed here!

I can’t think of everything!!!   Haaaaa!  Email me:  [email protected]   More fun to chat anyway  😉
